Writing informative and engaging content for Reedsy

I have written a lot of content for Reedsy, a marketplace that connects authors with freelance publishing professionals. I tailor the content to the specific audience, while also making sure to consistently reflect Reedsy's brand voice – authoritative, yet simple and fun.

Some of my most recent content discusses human versus AI developmental editors and how to write historical fiction.

Translating 20th-century texts on photography for academic research

I have translated multiple 20th-century texts to facilitate academic research into the history of photography. In one of these, I made the unusual decision to preserve a culturally insensitive comment – although I added a translator's note explaining that the stereotype is unfounded. This is because the number one priority was to enable the client to understand the German text in its entirety, rather than produce a text fit for publication for a modern British audience.

From translation to proofreading to content writing, my days are filled with a diverse range of projects. Find out what I have been up to recently and read some of my published writing for yourself.

In place of a dissertation, I translated the first 10,000 words of the hilarious 1933 novel Die Feuerzangenbowle by Heinrich Spoerl. The 1944 film adaptation is still very popular in Germany, and no wonder – the plot is highly entertaining. Having been homeschooled his whole life, successful 23-year-old writer Hans Pfeiffer decides to go undercover at a boys' grammar school, where he gets up to all kinds of mischief!

The examiners noted that my translation skilfully conveyed the humour and old-fashioned tone of the source text. A sample extract can be downloaded here and the full project has been published on the Institute for Translation and Interpreting's website.

Translating press releases for a German theatre

I translated three press releases for a German theatre. In my translations, I included some additional information to enable international readers to understand the culturally specific references and I broke up the sentences to make the text easier to read in English.
